Sculpture on the Edge (SOTE) started as a collaboration with Maleny Garden Clubs’ Open Gardens Festival in 2010. That success led to a stand-alone event in 2011, sponsored by the Spicers Group. Initially works were installed at Spicers Clovelly, Montville, but since 2012 work has been displayed in the grounds of Spicers Tamarind Retreat, Maleny. It is a great opportunity for Artists to showcase their works in the beautiful setting of Spicers Tamarind Retreat, Maleny. With a first prize of $7,500, this award attracts some of the best sculptors in Queensland and beyond.
The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is home to so many talented artists in all genres of art practice. With so much creativity on tap, it’s such a great fit to have an art prize like Sculpture On The Edge in Maleny. The arts community is strong and vibrant, and with Arts Connect Inc bringing creatives together, there is a strong network of volunteers working hard to bring this highly sought after prize for the public to enjoy.
As president of Arts Connect I’m proud to help ensure this amazing sculpture prize is as successful as possible for the artists, and also the visitors who come from all over Australia to see such a high standard of creativity.
