Say hello to Jen Braithwaite, one of our 3 curator

Say hello to Jen Braithwaite, one of our 3 curators for SOTE 2026! 👋

📍Bellmere, Queensland

Fine Artist and Sculptor, Curator, Coordinator of SOTE

Visual Artist, Curator, Arts Practitioner

Jenny holds a Degree in Fine Arts/Visual Culture and has developed an evolving practice that combines painting, textiles and sculpture. Her work has increasingly focused on Australian birds, particularly exploring their character, personality, colour, fragility and relationship to their natural habitat.
For Jenny, creating these works is an act of love and responsibility. Her sculptural works bring together textiles and natural materials, creating contemporary interpretations of Australian birdlife that are both tactile and connected to place.
Jenny has exhibited her work in galleries and exhibitions throughout the Moreton Bay, Brisbane, and Sunshine Coast regions, and continues to develop her practice through both two- and three-dimensional work.
Alongside her studio practice, Jenny has been actively involved in the development of the arts community on the Sunshine Coast. She has served as President of Arts Connect Inc. for five years and has coordinated and supported major arts events including Exhibitions, Open Studios Sunshine Coast and Sculpture on the Edge at Flaxton Gardens, where 2026 marks her fifth year of involvement.
Jenny has a professional background in senior administration and procurement as well as extensive experience coordinating exhibitions, arts events, artists and volunteers. Her combined experience as an artist, organiser and arts advocate informs her approach to curating and supporting artists.

Say hello to Janna Pameijer, one of three Curators

Say hello to Janna Pameijer, one of three Curators for SOTE 2026!

Read about Janna’s contributions and work below:

1978 Foundational studies completing a Degree in Fine Art majoring in ceramics.

Established a very successful studio in Brisbane and developed a sculpture technique which allowed clay workers to build large works without the use of armature. This has been so successful that Janna has been teaching this to new and return students for over 45 years.

1981 Co-founded the Queensland Wildlife society. Now a life member for services to promoting the uniqueness of Australian wildlife as a subject for all forms of art. Their annual exhibitions of paintings and sculpture are still held in various venues in Brisbane.

Regularly travelled throughout Queensland and NSW tutoring sculpture techniques to clay workers.

On her own work Janna says “I am an observer of people and other living creatures. As an observer, I want to understand the nature and particularly the essence of my subject, and capture this in form. I work mainly in clay to develop my shapes, after which they are cast in bronze.“

Public art sculptures include ‘Herd of Cows’ at the Obi River bridge Maleny, Aussie animals a Community Art project in Maleny, ‘Dolphins’ Port Stevens and Tea Gardens, NSW. Federation centenary 15 life size sculptures created with the towns people of Charters Towers.

Janna has also given workshops in Switzerland and Italy and developed interactive cultural tours in Morocco.

Welcome Janna and thanks for joining us for SOTE 2026!
